Ways to Volunteer!


Want to get involved with the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County? We are an all-volunteer organization, and we need you more than ever in 2026. Here are some of the ways you can use your skills and help empower voters and defend democracy!

Adopt-a-Library Team

Available Slots For Members Only


Description: Keep all Montgomery County Libraries up-to-date with voter information and schedule civic engagement events for community outreach.


Activities may include:

• Volunteer commits to working with 1 or more libraries throughout the year.

• Attend Team Training arranged by Adopt-A-Library Team Lead

• Meet with head librarian to foster relationship

• Work with the librarian to Identify civic engagement opportunities during special events, especially during election season.

• Coordinate with Team Lead, Communications Lead and Tabling (Get Out the Vote) Lead to advertise and recruit volunteers for tabling.

• Volunteer at all LWV events for your adopted library.

• Ensure Library has Secretary of State Voter Registration Forms displayed

• Provide Library with LWV flyers and brochures

• Deliver and ensure Library has enough Voter Guides throughout election season


Time Commitment

5 hours per month (most activity during election season)

Mobile Markets Team

Contact: Sue Griffis sue@griffis.org


Description: Provide voting awareness to Food Bank recipients and promoting LWV as a community resource. Mobile Markets are on the weekdays generally from 4-5:30pm.


Team Lead Duties

• Communicate via email with MoCo Food Bank to identify Mobile Markets dates where LWV can participate

• Identify appropriate materials to provide to Mobile Market clients

• Train Mobile Market volunteers

• Recruit 2 volunteers for each Mobile Market.

• Organize volunteers for 12 Mobile Markets during the month before each 2026 election (Feb, April, October)

• Write summary report of each experience to include lessons learned

• Communicate with Communications lead to post on our LWV website


Time Commitment

5-10 hours per month (most activity during election season)


Team Member Activities May Include:

• Work with Team Lead to identify appropriate materials for each election

• Attend Training (could be on site training or video)

• Attend at least one Mobile Market during the month prior to an election.

• Track the number of handouts given to Food Bank clients.

• Provide comments to Team Lead after event

• Take pictures during event to post on Social Media


Time Commitment

2-3 hours per Mobile Market (does not include travel time)

Membership Committee

Description: Provide a welcoming environment that attracts new members and keeps current members engaged in LWV activities. Work with membership team to identify events that attract membership of various age groups and locations in Montgomery County

 

Team Members Activities May Include:

• Text/Email members prior to events to encourage them to attend

• Staff membership table at events and check in members

• Recruit new members

• Develop and conduct membership orientation programs

• Develop and organize evening programs

• Partner with other groups coordinate joint meetings

• Suggest ways to improve communication with Membership

• Help with Member events such as Member Appreciation Events, Volunteer Recruitment Events.


Time Commitment

8-14 hours per event (Changes based on events)

Tabling (Get Out the Vote) Team

Description: Provide a voter information outreach service to Montgomery County where the community can get answers about voting location and hours, voter registration, ballot identification, and how to develop a voting plans.

Team Lead Position • Develop a Tabling/Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Training program • Recruit and train volunteer team for GOTV tabling events • Contact & develop relationship with Federal Qualified Health Centers, Lush, Community College, technical schools, etc.  • Develop new sites for tabling that correspond to LWV goals. • Partner with Adopt-A-Library Team when libraries request a GOTV Tabling event.

Time Commitment 15-20 hours per month (mostly during election season) 

Team Member Activities May Include: • Attend GOTV training • Gain proficiency in Vote411 website and Voters Guide • Attend and conduct tabling events throughout the year (workload is heavier prior to elections) • Pickup/Return tabling bin • Set up Table for event 30 minutes before event • Submit report after each tabling event to Team Lead

United and Rise Team (New Program for 2026)

Description: LWV has received grants to promote the national LWV Unite and Rise effort, which aims to build a movement of 8.5 million individuals to get engaged against the anti-democratic actions of the current administration.


Team Lead Position 

• Manage the LWVMoCo Unite and Rise grant

• Attend monthly National Unite and Rise Zoom call

• Attend monthly National Unite and Rise training 

• Coordinate a minimum of one Unite and Rise activity per quarter based on the current Playbook

• Communicate quarterly with the Board to promote activity 


Time Commitment 

 10 hours per month

Young Voters Team (New Program for 2026!)

Description: Promote the Youth Council to county youth people (ages 16-28), by providing opportunities such as participating in or leading civic engagement events, educating peers on voting, engaging in nonpartisan advocacy, and gaining practical skills in community organizing.


Pro Tip: Lots of Leagues across the country of great examples of Youth Council Programs!


Team Lead

411 Voters Guide Distribution Team

Description: Distribute the Voters Guide to area establishments across the County several weeks before each election.


Team Co-Leads Duties  

• Coordinate with Guide Creation Team Lead

• Update current distribution list for Guide delivery, which includes libraries, community centers, coffee shops, health clinics, churches, etc. (Board will offer guidelines.)

• Review and finalize number of English and Spanish guides to go to each location

• Review and revise maps for distribution (using Google Maps, Word, or similar)

• Schedule “Assembly and Distribution” meeting with Delivery Team volunteers

• Direct assembly of guides and make route assignments

• Confirm guide delivery and get feedback and suggestions for the future.


Time Commitment

 15-20 hours per month (for 5-6 weeks, starting 2 months prior to election) 

 

Team Members Activities May Include:

• Attend “Assembly and Distribution” Meeting and help assemble Guides

• Distribute Voters Guides to designated locations around County

• Provide feedback to Team Lead on reception and suggestions for expanding our reach


Time Commitment 

10 hours over a one-week period: 4-5 weeks before election; commit to at least one election a year

Communications Team

Description: Our job is to tell the story of the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County — what we do, how we serve, why people should join and how they can volunteer. Just as important, we provide up-to-date information and ensure people can find answers to all their election-related questions.


Team Members Activities May Include:

• Take photos and videos at our events for social media and website

• Create quick videos about voting rights and other topics

• Offer technical support and design expertise

• Review the website for clarity, broken links, ease of use.


Time Commitment

2-4 hours per month
